“I have an app idea” — the sentence we hear more than anything else. And our first question back is always: why an app? Not to be difficult — but because the app-vs-website choice determines your budget, launch speed and odds of success.
Truth #1: a website reaches anyone instantly
One link opens on any device with no download: from an ad, a WhatsApp message, a Google result. An app needs the user to visit the store, download, register — every step loses a share of people. Average user acquisition cost for an app is far higher than for a website visitor.
Truth #2: an app wins on repeat usage
An app lives in the user's pocket and sends notifications — a treasure if your service is used daily or weekly: delivery, recurring bookings, subscriptions, daily tracking. If you're used once every two months, nobody keeps your app installed.
The practical rule
- Discovered through search and ads? Start with a website. - Daily/weekly usage needing notifications? An app is justified. - A store? Start with a web store — once it proves out and repeat customers grow, add a loyalty app. - An internal team system? Web first, with an app for field roles (couriers, say).
The money-saving middle ground: the web app
A responsive web app (PWA) delivers a near-app experience: opens in the browser, can be installed to the home screen, and costs far less than separate iOS and Android apps. For many projects it's the smartest first launch.
And if an app truly is justified?
Then we recommend Flutter: one codebase for both platforms at half the cost of two native apps, starting with an MVP of core features only — launch fast, listen to real users, and evolve based on actual usage, not guesses.
Bottom line
There's no single answer — there's the right answer for your project. Work it out with two questions: where will your users come from? And how often will they use you per month? For a straight opinion on your specific case, our first consultation is always free.
